Join Matt Cerrone tonight at McFadden’s for Metsblog night. Details HERE. I’ll be there with SNK and my friend Diane. I’ve got the camera battery charging. If you want to be included in the photo album, make sure to say hi!
Just in case she can’t make it, though, I will be drinking tonight.
I still believe. Promise. But how can I resist an opportunity for Photoshop?
Help us, Maini Wan Kenobi. You’re our only hope.
You’ve voted right?? Well, vote again! Often! You’ve got until Sept. 6. Let’s wrap this up for my boo, folks.
The next time the Mets, Screenvision, and the Clearview Ziegfeld combine forces to put the game on the big screen, I recommend you go. It was the closest thing you can get to being at the game. Mr. Met was there. The Pepsi brigade was there. They had an organist! There were vendors in the aisles, hot dogs and beer, singing Meet the Mets, the 7th inning stretch, Pepsi shirts being thrown around. And look! I got this pom pom by asking nicely, even thought it was supposed to be only for kids. That’s Coop underneath–hi Coop!
Even better? 1969’s Bud Harrelson stopped by to talk to and joke with the crowd between innings. As did SNY’s own Chris Cotter and Lee Mazzilli! Mazz did a goofy dance in honor of the famous "Ziegfeld girls" of yore. I missed capturing that gem, alas, but I got the tail end of his musings on what he likes about broadcasting. Not a great clip, but it can give you a sense of the evening:
There were other highlights. The crowd cheering Delgado on as he tried to continue his mini hot streak. Collective chants of "Paul Lo Duca! Clap clap clap-clap-clap" and "Endy! Endy! Endy!" And, of course, going wild when our golden boy David Wright knocked out a first inning bomb:
Last night was the first in a week flush with Metsies events. For the photo album, click here! A gaggle of intrepid Mets bloggers gathered at The Blind Pig to watch what I was so sure would be an exciting win. Anyway.
The Vote For Mr. Met boys were there to provide Vote For Mr. Met t-shirts. I’ll be wearing mine tonight at the "Mets at the Movies" event at the Ziegfeld. Have you voted yet!? If not, do now at mascothalloffame.com. You’ve got ’til Sept. 1. Vote often. Mr. Met needs you.
Also in attendance last night were Mets Grrl and her TBF, Coop, Matt from Metsblog, Regis from Metsblog and Mets Heads and his (ahem) Yankees fan buddy, and Will from Smear the Q.u.e.e.r (a great blog! And another word I had no idea Mlblogs bleeped out!) and his trash-talking buddy.
Oy, bullpen. Bullllllpen. Bats. Starers at balls that don’t go foul. Come onnnnn. We’re almost at September. Get your game on! On the other hand, congrats to Carlos D, and I’ll hope he keeps up the hotness.
Although we gave Big Mota his props after a successful 1-2-3 9th inning, much of our bloggy group collectively freaked out when Willie left him in to pitch the 10th. Come on, Willie. I love you, but Just Say No to Mota for a 2nd inning! Here’s what Will had to say to watching Mota pitch.
It wasn’t just Mota. As I told Matt, I’m not too worried about the standings. I’m worried about the spirit of a team that can’t put together wins against its biggest division rivals. Spark up the fire, Metsies. We need you to feel like winners going into October.
We need you to find your swagger again.
If you’ll be at the Ziegfeld tonight for Mets at the Movies, look for the gal in her Vote For Mr. Met t-shirt and say hi! I’ll be there with Coop, so drop her a holla too.
I’ll leave you with this pic of Regis and Matt, because Regis thinks they both look "cool." (It’s possible he has yet to learn that I tease gently and with affection.)
