Thoughts for the 4th of July

july4.jpegYou know what our founding fathers wanted for this country 230ish years ago? When they were sitting around in their powdery wigs writing the Declaration of Independence? All hot and sweaty, cursing the Philadelphia summer humidity? Thomas Jefferson was forced to ex-out his favorite line in that hallowed document, the little known 11th amendment in the Bill of Rights:

The New York Metropolitans shall, at some moment in excess of two centuries and a score from this date, decimate the team known as the Philadelphia Phillies. They shall play with heart and at the height of their talent, eschewing any defense of sloppy ilk. Their bats shall make constant contact with the ball, and their multitude of hits shall subsequently make it home. The Mets shall dominate.

And so how better to salute our independence than to watch Lady Liberty lift her torch and proudly finish the job started ages ago. To our fair statue I say, Go crack that Liberty Bell wide open.

Or, as Thomas Jefferson might have put it:

Come on, Metsies. Do us proud.

I’ve got the hot dogs ready to go, and the beers on ice. I’m ready. Those games in Philly would be so much fun if the Mets would only WIN!!! :P

The founding fathers wanted to run a marathon!

Congrats on topping the list! Question for you: how do I get all of my tags to be listed? I see you have quite a few — as do I — but mine will only list the first three or four letters of the alphabet. It’s driving me nuts. Would you have any advice?

Hi Jeff,
I tried to comment over at your place, but it says I don’t have permission to comment–weird! I actually never tag. Those are all old and just appeared when they changed to the new mlblogs format. So…not sure what to do there!

Hi Zoe,
Yeah, same thing happens to me all the time when I try to comment on MLBlogs. If I log out and then log back on it usually lets me. It happened when I tried yours yesterday. We don’t block any comments (that wouldn’t be fun). Anyway, congrats again and thanks for the info on tags.
