Oh Be-Jeezus Be-Kryst
So...I just called the Mets PR Office again, to double check that there's no open batting practice today for the fans, just to make ABSOLUTE sure. I expected to talk to the lovely guy with whom I spoke the other day. Because--hey. Mets PR Office. Surely the HEAD HONCHO GUY doesn't answer his own phones, right?
Ummm....no. I called the public-as-all-heck number and got: "Reader Relations, Jay Horowitz." I froze and then spurted out a quick: "When does the stadium open today?"
The answer from JAY HOROWITZ was 1:30 or 1:45. But I have a feeling he meant for actual Press-Type-Offical-People and not for Adorable-Chick-Lit-Novelist People. Such as, you know, ME.
Jay Horowitz has a nice voice. It's soothing and fatherly. Also? A little frazzled right now. I can't say he sounded upbeat. But, then, it's not like we chatted for hours. Or minutes. Or...at all.
My cheeks may be a bit red with embarrassment, but at least I can go down in history as the one person who had JAY HOROWITZ'S ear today and asked not about El Duque, who's pitching today, what the team's feeling...nope. I asked him what time the stadium opens.
Now, why didn't I become a hard-hitting reporter instead of a fiction writer? Clearly it's sports writing's loss.
LETS GO METS!! LETS GO METS!!
xx
UPDATE: I JUST CALLED THE CORRECT NUMBER--FRONT OFFICE--FOR THE INFO I NEEDED AND THERE IS A BATTING PRACTICE! 1:30 PM! HOLY **** I'VE GOT TO GET READY AND GET MY TUSH OUT THERE!

You're a loon.

Hey zoe... you probably haven't heard the news about El Duque yet... it's a tear and he's off the roster all together. We are looking at Maine in Game 1 and Oliver Perez in Game 4... ya gotta believe, right?

Maine did pretty amazing considering he had plans to pitch game 4 the earliest. He is something else and came through like a star. LoDuca taking the on target throw from Green for 2 outs at the plate - unbelievable! Delgado and Wright?? My heros. Yes, a very exciting and exhausting game but we Mets fans would not have it any other way. On to game 2 - whew.

That was a close one, Zoe, but all that matters is we pulled it out in the end! Brilliant job by Willie of managing his 'pen, and big knocks for Delgado and Wright. Can't wait to read your report from the front lines!

You mean there's a difference between being a hard-hitting reporter and a fiction writer??? Oh, but not at the NY Times...

Zoe, I run a site called Hit Tracker Online, where I estimate how far all the home runs go. Zack Hample referred me to you - I am trying to pinpoint where Delgado's homer landed, hoping you can help me out! Sounds like it landed somewhere in the camera tower, did you see exectly where it hit?

Greg, Rob's words were "It landed in the camera tower, that's how high it was." But I didn't see where it went myself, and I'm not sure if Rob was assuming.
Oh man, I've got to blog sometime today, but I had an event to go to after the game and I was up so late! But the event was SO **** COOL, and I'll fill you in. Now it's off to work then the game again.
I'll get blogging in today, but not as many pics as I'd like perhaps!
